Nightlife
Mtskheta after dark
There is effectively no nightlife in Mtskheta, and this is the clearest argument against staying overnight for anyone who wants an evening out. Restaurants in the centre serve dinner and some stay open reasonably late in summer, particularly along the river, but the town empties of visitors in the late afternoon and settles into a quiet provincial evening. That quiet is genuinely appealing if it is what you came for — the cathedral lit at night with almost nobody around is one of the better things about staying — but anyone wanting bars, music or late food should sleep in Tbilisi, which is twenty minutes away.
Riverside restaurants
The closest thing to an evening scene: a handful of restaurants along the water that serve late in summer and often grill outdoors. Relaxed and family-oriented rather than a night out.
The cathedral square after dark
Not nightlife, but the reason to be here in the evening. The floodlit cathedral, empty streets and the sound of the river make a short walk after dinner the highlight of an overnight stay.
Night safety
Mtskheta is quiet and safe at night, with very little street activity of any kind after about ten. The practical risks are poor street lighting away from the centre, uneven cobbles, and unlit rough ground near the river and around Bebris Tsikhe, which is not a place to wander after dark. Ride-hailing cars become scarce late in the evening, so if you are returning to Tbilisi at night, arrange the car rather than assuming one will be available.
