Ayutthaya Historical Park
อุทยานประวัติศาสตร์พระนครศรีอยุธยา
Ayutthaya Historical Park is the Fine Arts Department's historical park for the registered ancient monuments of the old capital on the city island of Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya.
Why go
Ayutthaya Historical Park is run by the Fine Arts Department, whose unit page says the Department set up the park project in 1982 to look after and manage the 1,810 rai of registered monuments on the city island, and that a further 3,000 rai was declared in 1997, making 4,810 rai of the island a monument zone. The same page dates the city's foundation as a capital to 1350 and its end to 1767, and says UNESCO inscribed the historic city on the World Heritage List on 13 December 1991. That inscription is a designation over the historic city and is not the same thing as this park. Temples inside it, such as Wat Mahathat, Wat Ratchaburana and Wat Phra Si Sanphet, have their own XTOUR records. The park's office is at 196 Mu 4, Khlong Tho Road, Pratu Chai; which monuments each ticket covers, and where the entrances are, were not found on the Department's pages.
