Bajra Sandhi Monument

Monumen Bajra Sandhi

The Bajra Sandhi Monument, formally the Monumen Perjuangan Rakyat Bali (Monument to the Struggle of the Balinese People), stands in the Niti Mandala Renon field in Denpasar, in front of the Bali governor's office, and holds dioramas of Balinese history.

Why go

The Bali Government Tourism Office describes the Bajra Sandhi Monument as the Monument to the Struggle of the Balinese People, honouring its heroes, with 17 steps at the main door, eight great pillars and a height of 45 metres, standing in Lapangan Puputan Niti Mandala Renon in front of the governor's office. The Bali Provincial Culture Office runs it as a technical unit (UPTD Monumen Perjuangan Rakyat Bali). The Denpasar City Tourism Office's page says the building houses 33 dioramas of the Balinese people's history, from prehistory to the years after independence, with text in Balinese, Indonesian and English, and that the spiral staircase to the top floor is considered sacred: the page says menstruating women are not permitted to climb it. This record is the monument building, not the surrounding Renon field.
