CERN Science Gateway
CERN Science Gateway is CERN's education and outreach centre at Esplanade des Particules 1 in Meyrin, in a building designed by Renzo Piano Building Workshop, with exhibitions, lab workshops and science shows.
Why go
This record is the visitor centre, not CERN as an organisation and not its accelerators or experiments. CERN's visit site says the building holds three exhibitions, two hands-on labs, an auditorium, a shop and a restaurant, connected by a bridge over the main road in front of CERN. For families and individual visitors, CERN says registration is required, that online registration is recommended up to a month ahead and guarantees entry, that on-site registration depends on availability, and that visitors under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Guided tours and lab workshops need a separate on-site reservation after check-in, and CERN says only about 10 percent of visitors can join them; group bookings, for 12 to 48 people, are mandatory.
