Jakarta History Museum (Fatahillah Museum)

Museum Sejarah Jakarta

The Jakarta History Museum (Museum Fatahillah) is the city's history museum on Jalan Taman Fatahillah in Kota Tua, West Jakarta, in the building that held Batavia's town hall (Stadhuis).

Why go

The Jakarta provincial government's portal lists the museum among those the province manages and says it covers the city's history from prehistory through the heyday of the port of Sunda Kelapa and the colonial era to independence, with about 23,500 original and replica objects. The portal gives 1707 to 1712 for its founding and says it officially became the Museum Sejarah Jakarta in 1974; its page on the governor's office says Batavia's government office, the Stadhuis, was in this building in 1905. This record is the museum, not Fatahillah Square or the wider Kota Tua district. Opening times and fees are set by the museum and change, so check before you go.
