Wayang Museum

Museum Wayang

The Wayang Museum is the Jakarta provincial government's puppet museum on Jalan Pintu Besar Utara in Kota Tua, West Jakarta, opened in 1975.

Why go

The Jakarta provincial government's portal lists the Wayang Museum among the museums the province manages and says it holds Indonesian wayang puppets together with puppets and dolls from Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, China, India, France and Suriname, as well as gamelan sets and wayang paintings. The portal dates the building to 1640 and its opening as the Museum Wayang to 13 August 1975, at Jalan Pintu Besar Utara No. 27 in Pinangsia. This record is the Jakarta museum, not the other wayang museums elsewhere in Indonesia. Opening times, fees and any performance schedule are set by the museum and are not stated here.
