Mirabell Gardens
Mirabellgarten
The Mirabell Gardens are the Baroque garden of Mirabell Palace in Salzburg, reshaped around 1690 to plans by Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach.
Why go
This record is the garden, not Mirabell Palace, which has its own record. Salzburg's tourism board says the garden was reshaped around 1690 under Archbishop Johann Ernst Thun to plans by Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach and keeps its Baroque geometry, with a view towards the cathedral and the fortress. It names the large parterre with its fountain and four figure groups by Ottavio Mosto, the Pegasus fountain, placed here in 1913, the hedge theatre and the dwarf garden of Untersberg marble figures. The board also says the garden is one of the settings of the film The Sound of Music.
