Museum der Moderne Salzburg Mönchsberg

The Museum der Moderne Mönchsberg is the Museum der Moderne Salzburg's modern and contemporary art venue on top of the Mönchsberg above the old town, opened in 2004.

Why go

This record is the museum's Mönchsberg building, one of the Museum der Moderne Salzburg's two venues; the other, the Rupertinum in the old town, is not this record. The museum says the venue was designed by the architects Friedrich Hoff Zwink after an international competition held in 1998, was inaugurated in October 2004, and shows twentieth- and twenty-first-century art on three gallery levels. It says visitors reach it with the MönchsbergAufzug lift, enter through a lobby with the shop and reception desk, and that the façade of Untersberg marble has ventilation slots arranged to encode notes from Mozart's Don Giovanni. Its home page says tickets are sold online and at the Mönchsberg ticket desk, and lists a ticket that includes the lift.
