Palazzo Pubblico
Palazzo Pubblico is Siena's medieval town hall on Piazza del Campo, built from 1297, which still houses the city's municipal administration alongside the Museo Civico and the Torre del Mangia.
Why go
This record is the palace, which holds both the Comune di Siena's offices and its Museo Civico; Piazza del Campo in front of it is a separate record. The Museo Civico's site, run by the Comune's Culture and Tourism Directorate, says building began in 1297 for the Government of the Nine and that the Torre del Mangia and the Cappella del Campo at its foot were added in the fourteenth century. The museum's pages name works kept there including Simone Martini's Maestà and Ambrogio Lorenzetti's Allegories and Effects of Good and Bad Government. Visit Siena, the Comune's tourism site, says the museum and the tower stair are entered from the Cortile del Podestà. The museum's visit page says museum tickets can be bought online, at the palace ticket office or through the call centre, while any ticket that includes the Torre del Mangia cannot be booked and is sold only on the day, at the palace ticket office or the Dear Guests office.
