Teishebaini (Karmir Blur)

Why go

Digging since 1939 has uncovered rows of long, narrow rooms behind massive rectangular towers and two gates, and wine cellars on the lower floor where jars of 350 to 1,300 litres stood. Finds include weapons, jewellery, inscribed bronze bowls and cuneiform tablets. Parts of the stone walls and the brick upper structure still stand. The site suits visitors already drawn to Urartu, and the Erebuni Museum, whose reserve was created partly on the basis of this site, gives the context. Armenia has put it forward with Erebuni on its tentative list.
