Why go
The memorial and the museum are two distinct parts of one visit. Outside, the twelve slabs represent the lost provinces now in Turkey, the flame burns 1.5 metres below the surrounding ground in memory of the victims, and a 100-metre wall lists the towns and villages where massacres and deportations took place. The Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute, added to the complex in 1995, presents the documentary history, and a tree-lined memorial path runs through the grounds. On 24 April, the day of remembrance, crowds walk up the hill to lay flowers at the flame.
