Gülnuş Emetullah Sultan, mother of the Ottoman sultans Mustafa II and Ahmed III, had this mosque complex built in Üsküdar. According to TDV İslâm Ansiklopedisi and the plaque on the building, construction began on 7 November 1708 and the mosque opened for worship on 5 March 1711. It is called 'yeni' (new) to tell it apart from other valide sultan complexes. The prayer hall is close to square under a central dome that looks low because of the windows in its drum, and the outer form rises in stages rather than in the pyramid of classical mosques. The prayer hall and the courtyard stand above street level and are reached by stone steps that fan outward. The courtyard is unusually larger than the prayer hall: domed arcades surround it and an octagonal marble şadırvan stands in the middle. TDV singles out the carved stone birdhouses on the outer walls, among the earliest of their kind, as an example of Ottoman care for animals. The two minarets have two balconies each. The wider complex included a tomb, a children's school, a soup kitchen, fountains and a sebil. Some sources credit the court architect Kayserili Mehmed Ağa, but TDV says it is not known for certain that he built it. This is not the Yeni Cami (New Mosque) at Eminönü, which is on the European shore about 3.7 km away.
A working mosque in central Üsküdar, between Hakimiyeti Milliye Caddesi, Balaban Caddesi and İmam Nasır Sokağı; the Ministry of National Education's visit portal gives the address as Hakimiyeti Milliye Caddesi 10/1, Mimar Sinan Mahallesi. The portal lists it as open to visitors every day and says entry is free (read 22 September 2026); it does not give the mosque's own visiting hours, and prayer times will shape when you can go in. Its visit notes ask visitors to dress suitably, to take off their shoes where indicated, to keep quiet in this place of worship, and not to touch the historic fittings. The courtyard has five gates. The prayer hall and courtyard are raised and reached by stone steps that fan outward (TDV İslâm Ansiklopedisi).

No seasonal closure or seasonal operating pattern is published for this mosque. The Ministry of National Education's portal, read on 22 September 2026, lists it as open every day. Access is governed by prayer times, which change through the year with sunrise and sunset.
