When to visit Dilijan
Dilijan sits at around 1,200–1,500 metres in a forested valley and has a distinctly wetter, milder climate than the rest of Armenia. It receives substantially more rainfall than Yerevan, which is why the forest exists at all, and its summers are noticeably cooler — commonly five to ten degrees below the capital, which is the main reason Armenians come here in July and August. Cloud and mist form readily in the valley, and rain can arrive quickly even in summer. Winters are cold and snowy, with the surrounding passes occasionally difficult. Autumn is the standout season: stable weather through September and the beech forest turning colour in the second half of October. Spring is green but wet, and trails stay muddy well into May.
