Traveling With Kidsin Dilijan

A practical guide to visiting Dilijan with babies, toddlers, children and teenagers, including strollers, transport and family logistics.

Family travel

Dilijan with children

Dilijan works well with children who are happy outdoors. Parz Lake with its boats and zipline, short forest walks, the pottery workshops and cooler summer temperatures than Yerevan all help. The constraints are drive times to everything outside town, limited facilities at the monasteries and trailheads, and weather that turns quickly.

Babies

Basic supplies are available in town but the range is far narrower than Yerevan; bring what you rely on. Changing facilities outside hotels are effectively absent.

Toddlers

The Parz Lake area and the flatter parts of the historic quarter work best. Forest trails are generally too rough and too long for small children on foot.

Children

The best age group for Dilijan. Short waymarked forest walks, the lake activities and a pottery session usually land well, and the monastery visits are short enough not to lose interest.

Teenagers

Longer trail sections, the zipline and the Transcaucasian Trail day sections give teenagers something substantial. Evening entertainment is minimal, which is worth setting expectations about.

Strollers

Poor. The historic quarter is cobbled and sloped, forest trails are unsuitable, and the town's gradient is significant. A carrier is far more practical than a stroller here.

Car seats

Not standard in taxis. If you need one, arrange it in advance with a private driver or bring your own; do not assume availability locally.

Changing facilities

Limited to hotels and the larger restaurants. Nothing reliable at monasteries, trailheads or Parz Lake.
