How much does Istanbul cost?
Ministry of Culture and Tourism museum pages quote prices in Turkish lira (TL). Cash is not universal: the Basilica Cistern's entrances accept only credit or debit cards and İstanbulkart, not cash. Metro İstanbul's FAQ says rail travel is by İstanbulkart, bought from the Biletmatik machines at stations with a deposit. The FCDO says banks and money exchanges may not accept 50 or 100 US dollar banknotes because of counterfeiting, and advises being wary of strangers who offer to change money.
