Mountain resort
Hatsvali
Hatsvali is Mestia’s closest ski area and a major winter destination, with direct cable-car connection from Mestia when operating. It is especially valued for forest skiing, freeride terrain and strong views toward Ushba and surrounding glaciers. In winter it is the nearest, most convenient alpine playground for skiers and snowboarders staying in town, while in summer it remains a dramatic viewpoint and trail area.
Booking: Lift operation depends on season, maintenance and weather. Check current operating information before heading up. Freeride and off-piste routes are not ordinary marked pistes and appropriate guiding is often important.
Accessibility: Mountain terrain and snow conditions can substantially limit mobility. Lift access and final surfaces should be confirmed in advance.

Mountain landscape
Koruldi Lakes
A group of alpine lakes above Mestia, roughly 10 km from the town, situated around 2,700–2,850 m elevation depending on the specific lake and route description. They are among the most dramatic highland viewpoints in Upper Svaneti, with panoramic views toward major Caucasus peaks and the Enguri valley. The route climbs far above the town and is one of Mestia’s signature outdoor excursions.
Booking: Reachable by hiking, horse or suitable off-road vehicle depending on conditions. Weather and road conditions matter more than distance, and driving there should not be described as guaranteed or suitable for ordinary cars. Visitors going on foot should carry water, sun protection, layers and food because the elevation is substantially higher than Mestia.
Accessibility: High-altitude rough terrain makes this unsuitable for travelers requiring step-free access.

Hatsvali cable car area

Ski and mountain resort
Tetnuldi Ski Resort
Tetnuldi is Svaneti’s larger high-altitude ski area, roughly 15–17 km from Mestia. Its lift-served terrain rises to around 3,160 metres and it is especially known for alpine scenery, long descents and freeride terrain.
Booking: Check current lift, snow, avalanche and access conditions before leaving Mestia. A high-clearance vehicle or local winter transfer is commonly needed to reach the resort.
Accessibility: High-altitude snow terrain and mountain access make this a challenging environment for significant mobility limitations.

Traditional churches of Mestia
