Mestia has a high mountain climate with cold snowy winters, mild summers and rapid weather changes. Summer days can be pleasant while nights remain cool. Rain and thunderstorms can develop quickly in the mountains. Winter brings snow and freezing temperatures, while spring and autumn conditions vary sharply by elevation.
Best time
June to September is the main season for hiking, mountain roads and day trips, with July and August bringing the largest number of visitors. Late May and October can be rewarding but mountain conditions are less predictable. December into early April is the broad winter planning window for Hatsvali and Tetnuldi, but the two ski areas can open or close on different dates and historical seasons are not a forecast. Snow, rain, fog and rapid weather changes can affect roads, trails and flights in every shoulder season.

2025/26
Hatsvali
MTA announced the Zuruldi lift from 27 December and said Hatsvali slopes would open progressively according to weather and snow coverage. Hatsvali remained scheduled through 29 March.

Tetnuldi
MTA said Tetnuldi slopes would open progressively according to weather and snow coverage; its 2026 closing notice kept Tetnuldi open later than Hatsvali, through 9 April. The announcement does not separately establish a first Tetnuldi lift-operation date, so none is invented here.
2024/25
Hatsvali and Tetnuldi
MTA announced the 2024-25 Mestia season for 21 December, with named lifts and trails operating in both Hatsvali and Tetnuldi.
