Central Mestia is compact and best explored on foot. Most regional sights require a taxi, private driver, shared 4WD, organized excursion or hiking. The road journey from Zugdidi climbs through mountain terrain and takes several hours; official tourism information currently gives roughly 4–5 hours from Kutaisi and substantially longer from Tbilisi. Domestic flights connect Mestia with Natakhtari and, on limited schedules, Kutaisi, but flights are particularly weather-sensitive. For mountain travel, build flexibility into your itinerary.
