Why go

The Habitat Penang Hill is a rainforest park at the top of Penang Hill. Its operator calls it a gateway to the Penang Hill Biosphere Reserve, which UNESCO lists under its Man and the Biosphere Programme. The operator names heritage trails developed in the 1880s, the Curtis Crest tree-top platform, which it calls the highest accessible viewing platform on Penang Island, and the Langur Way canopy bridge, which it calls the longest double-span stressed ribbon bridge in the world. It says over 2,500 species live in the rainforest. The park is a five-minute walk from the funicular's Upper Station, and funicular tickets are sold separately.

Getting there

The operator gives two ways up: ride the Penang Hill funicular from the Lower Station in Air Itam to the Upper Station, or hike up. From the Upper Station it is a 5-minute walk: head for the Penang Hill roundabout opposite the police station, look for The Habitat flag poles and continue to the ticketing entrance. Funicular tickets are separate from Habitat passes.
