Neighborhoods

Where to stay in Tsaghkadzor

The right neighborhood can matter more than the right hotel. Compare atmosphere, location and who each area suits.

01

The hotel belt and lift base

The resort accommodation on the slopes above the town, closest to the lift stations and holding the larger hotels with spas, pools and ski storage. This is the functional core of the resort in winter.

Best for

SkiingHotel facilitiesSki-season convenienceFamilies using the slopes

The right choice in ski season, when proximity to the lifts genuinely matters. Less compelling in summer, when it is quiet and detached from the town.

02

Town centre and Kecharis

The ordinary town around the monastery, with shops, small hotels, guesthouses and restaurants. Everyday Armenian life rather than resort atmosphere, and the monastery is here rather than up on the slopes.

Best for

ValueNon-skiersWalking to the monasterySummer stays

Cheaper and more grounded than the hotel belt, with the monastery and shops walkable. A short taxi or uphill walk to the lifts.

03

Sanatorium and sports complex area

The zone of Soviet-era sanatoria, rest houses and the Olympic training complex, some modernised and some emphatically not. Architecturally distinctive and unusually large for the town's size.

Best for

Budget staysSoviet-era architectureLonger staysCuriosity

Inexpensive and interesting, but comfort levels vary enormously between properties. Read recent reviews carefully rather than booking on price.
