Traveling With Kidsin Tsaghkadzor
A practical guide to visiting Tsaghkadzor with babies, toddlers, children and teenagers, including strollers, transport and family logistics.
Family travel
Tsaghkadzor with children
Tsaghkadzor is one of the better family destinations in Armenia in both seasons, and the only place in the country set up for family skiing. The lower slopes and rope tows suit beginners and children, instruction is available and inexpensive by European standards, and in summer the ropeway, forest walks and cool air work well for families escaping Yerevan heat. The constraints are the uphill layout of the town, resort pricing and the shortage of wet-weather alternatives.
Babies
Hotels in the resort belt are the practical base, as they have the facilities the town lacks. Supplies are available in the town and in Hrazdan below but with a narrow range; bring what you depend on.
Toddlers
The lower beginner area and the town's flatter sections work best. The gradient between town and hotels is a real obstacle with small children on foot, and altitude plus cold at the top station is not suitable for the very young.
Children
The strongest age group here. Ski lessons for children are available and inexpensive, the rope tows and lower slopes are appropriate, and in summer the ropeway and forest walks land well. Kecharis is small enough not to exhaust patience.
Teenagers
Skiing and snowboarding in winter give teenagers a real focus. Outside the season there is less to hold their attention, and evening options are thin.
Strollers
Difficult. The town is on a slope, pavements are uneven and snow-covered in season. A carrier is more practical, and hotel-belt accommodation reduces the problem.
Car seats
Not standard in taxis. Arrange in advance with a private driver, particularly given the winding approach road.
Changing facilities
Available at the larger hotels and the lift base building. Limited elsewhere in the town.
