Getting around Tsaghkadzor
The town is small but built on a slope, and the distance between the town centre and the hotel belt above it is a genuine uphill walk rather than a stroll, particularly carrying ski equipment. Most visitors move between the two by taxi, which is cheap and easily arranged, or use hotel shuttles where provided. Within the ski area, the lift system is the transport. Getting here, the most common approach from Yerevan is a taxi or private driver taking about an hour, or a marshrutka to Hrazdan followed by a local connection up to the resort, which is cheap but slower and involves a change. There is no rail connection to the resort itself. Ride-hailing apps have limited coverage compared with Yerevan, so returns are usually arranged through accommodation. Driving is straightforward in summer; in winter the approach road from Hrazdan requires proper tyres and care, and hire cars are not always equipped for snow, which is worth confirming with the rental company rather than discovering on the hill.
Problems worth knowing
Hire cars may not be winter-equipped
The approach road climbs and holds snow and ice through the season. Confirm that any hire car has winter tyres before driving up between December and March rather than assuming it.
The town centre and the lifts are not the same place
Accommodation booked on price in the town centre involves a real uphill journey to the lift base each morning. In ski season this matters more than the nightly saving suggests.
Not all lift stages run at all times
The system operates in stages and partial operation is common, especially early and late in the season and outside winter. Confirm what is running before buying a pass or making a special trip.
Weekend crowding is severe
Saturdays and Sundays in ski season bring heavy domestic traffic from Yerevan, with queues at the lifts and full restaurants. Weekdays are a different resort entirely.
No direct public transport from Yerevan
Reaching the resort by public transport means a marshrutka to Hrazdan and a local connection up. It is doable and cheap but slow; most visitors take a taxi or driver.
