Money & costs
How much does Gyumri cost?
The currency is the Armenian dram. Cards are accepted at hotels, larger restaurants and supermarkets in the centre, but acceptance is patchier than in Yerevan and the market, small cafes, craft workshops, taxis and bakeries generally operate in cash. ATMs are available in the centre and around Vartanants Square, and foreign cards work at Armenian bank machines, usually with a fixed fee per withdrawal. Prices across the board are meaningfully lower than the capital, which is one of the practical pleasures of staying here.
Budget
Roughly 15,000–28,000 AMD per person per day as of September 2026, covering a guesthouse, eating at bakeries and local restaurants and walking everywhere.
Mid-range
Roughly 30,000–60,000 AMD per person per day as of September 2026, covering a restored merchant-house guesthouse or central hotel, restaurant meals and a half-day taxi to Marmashen.
Luxury
From roughly 80,000 AMD per person per day as of September 2026. The upper end here is modest; Gyumri has no luxury hotel sector comparable to Yerevan.
