Traveling With Kidsin Sevan

A practical guide to visiting Sevan with babies, toddlers, children and teenagers, including strollers, transport and family logistics.

Family travel

Sevan with children

Sevan works well with families in July and August, when the beaches operate and the water is warm enough for children to swim, and much less well outside those months. The practical constraints are cold water, wind, strong high-altitude sun and the absence of lifeguards on most of the shoreline.

Babies

Basic supplies are available in Sevan town but not on the shoreline strip. Shade is scarce along the shore, which matters more here than the air temperature suggests.

Toddlers

Developed beach areas with shallow, gradual entry are the safest choice. The lake shelves quickly in places and the water is cold enough to cause a sharp reaction in small children.

Children

The best age for Sevan in summer: swimming, boats, crayfish eaten by hand and the walk up to the monastery all work. Noratus holds interest surprisingly well because the carvings are all different.

Teenagers

Water activities, boat trips and the beach club scene in high summer. Outside July and August there is little for teenagers here.

Strollers

Poor at the sights and workable on the developed shore. Sevanavank's staircase rules out wheels entirely; the shoreline is loose gravel in most places.

Car seats

Not standard in taxis. Arrange with a private driver in advance if required.

Changing facilities

Available at the developed beach clubs in season and at larger hotels. Absent at Sevanavank, Noratus and along the undeveloped shore.
