How much does Yerevan cost?

The currency is the Armenian dram (AMD). Cards are widely accepted in central Yerevan restaurants, hotels, supermarkets and larger shops, and Visa and Mastercard are the reliable networks; American Express is accepted only patchily. Contactless payment including Apple Pay and Google Pay works with the major Armenian banks and is common in the centre. Cash still matters more than in most European capitals: markets, small cafes, taxis flagged on the street, marshrutkas, monastery donations and almost everything outside the city expect dram in cash. ATMs are widespread; foreign cards are generally accepted, but many banks apply a fixed fee per withdrawal that can be several dollars, so fewer larger withdrawals cost less than frequent small ones. Change money at bank branches or licensed exchange offices rather than with street changers. Note that Yerevan's public transport moved to a unified cashless ticketing system, so cash is no longer accepted on buses, trolleybuses and the metro.
