Accessibility in Goris
Southern Armenia is the least accessible part of the standard visitor circuit, and honesty serves travellers better than optimism here. Khndzoresk requires a steep descent and re-ascent on rough stepped paths and is not accessible in any form. Old Goris involves a steep climb on loose ground. Tatev monastery sits on uneven terrain with steps between levels and thresholds into the churches. The significant exception is the Wings of Tatev cable car itself, whose stations and cabins are among the better-equipped facilities in the region, meaning the gorge crossing and the views can be experienced even where the monastery grounds cannot be fully explored; confirm current step-free boarding arrangements in advance. Goris town is the most manageable element, with its regular grid and gentler gradients than most Armenian towns, though pavements are uneven. Accessible accommodation is very limited and specifics should be confirmed directly. A private vehicle is essential rather than preferable.

Khndzoresk involves a substantial stepped descent and climb. Old Goris is a steep loose ascent. The town itself sits on a slope but the grid keeps gradients manageable.
Stroller suitability
Workable in the town centre only. Impractical at every site outside it.
Accessible transport
None as public provision. An adapted private vehicle arranged well in advance is the only option, and availability in this region is genuinely scarce.
Rest areas & seating
Adequate in town, where cafes and benches exist. Very limited at the sites; Khndzoresk and Old Goris have effectively none.
Accessible bathrooms
Available at some hotels and at the cable car stations. Not available at Khndzoresk, Old Goris or Zorats Karer.
Sensory accessibility
Visual
Uneven ground, unfenced drops at the cave sites and rough paths make independent navigation hazardous outside the town. Guided assistance is strongly advisable at Khndzoresk and Old Goris.
Hearing
Few barriers, though English is limited outside guesthouses used to foreign guests and written communication may be necessary. Cable car safety announcements may not be available in English.
Noise & crowds
Goris is very quiet, and the gorges more so. The cable car can be uncomfortable for anyone with a fear of heights or motion sensitivity given the height above the gorge and the length of the crossing.
