Goris suits families with children old enough to manage long car journeys and steep walking. The cable car is a genuine highlight for almost any age, and the cave dwellings capture children's imagination in a way that monasteries often do not. The real constraints are drive times, the steepness of the Khndzoresk gorge and Old Goris slopes, and the shortage of facilities at the sites.
Babies
Basic supplies are available in Goris but the range is narrow; bring what you depend on. Changing facilities outside accommodation are effectively absent, including at the cable car stations and cave sites.
Toddlers
Difficult. The main sites involve steep, unfenced descents on rough ground. The cable car works well, and the town grid is fine for a walk, but Khndzoresk and Old Goris are not toddler terrain.
Children
The best age here. The cable car, the swinging bridge and climbing around cave dwellings are memorable, and the gorge landscape is genuinely exciting. Watch the unfenced drops at the cave sites.
Teenagers
The scale of the landscape, the bridge and the walking hold up well. Evening entertainment is minimal, which is worth setting expectations about before arriving.
Strollers
Impractical everywhere except the town grid. A carrier is the only realistic option for the sites.
Car seats
Not standard in taxis or hired drivers. Arrange in advance if required, or bring your own; given the length of the drives here this matters more than in a city.
Changing facilities
Limited to accommodation. Not available at Khndzoresk, Old Goris or reliably at the cable car stations.
