UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity inscribes its preparation, meaning and appearance as an expression of culture in Armenia. Thin flatbreads with related names are also part of other regional food traditions; this entry does not claim lavash as unique to Armenia, only that this UNESCO listing documents it as part of Armenian cuisine.
